We have been surveying and fitting Plantation Shutters in the Munster region for over 7 years. Having worked during this time with many different suppliers and with different types of shutters, we have concluded that, because of its unique properties, basswood is one of the most suitable species of wood available for the production of Plantation Shutters. Why Basswood? Basswood is ideal for the production of top quality handcrafted shutters because of its fine grain (rather than course grain), its light weight (which is essential to prevent sagging of the shutter panels), and by its high resistance to warping. Also known as Lime or Linden Wood, basswood is a hardwood from a species of hardwood tree which grows throughout North America, Asia and Europe. The word "Basswood" comes from the word "Bast", which is a fibrous material formed from the bark of the tree. The wood for our shutters comes from sustained sources and is FSC Pure Certified. Our Basswood Shutters and frames receive a six stage paint/ wood-stain finish following preparation of the wood. All finishes are UV stabilised, in order to prevent discolouration of the painted or wood-stained finish.
We have three basic styles of Plantation Shutters: 'Full-Height' shutters can be fully opened back to allow the light to bathe your room, or they can be completely closed for maximum privacy. 'Tier-on-Tier' shutters allow you to open the top tier back, while allowing you to keep the bottom tier closed, while again allowing you to adjust the louvers to suit your needs. 'Cafe-Style' shutters are, as the name suggests, more suitable for rooms where total privacy is not a requirement. Cafe Style shutters cover the bottom half of a window only, leaving the top half open to the view.
